Eradicating “Mud Schools” in South Africa

Case Note

In rural South Africa, hundreds of so-called “mud schools” lack electricity, running water, sound roofs, and other essential facilities. Can constitutional litigation effect a lasting solution? This Case Note detail the successes and challenges the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) has faced in using litigation to eradicate mud schools and replace these structures with stable and safe buildings.
