Joining CJTL

Membership in the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law is open to all rising 2Ls, transfer students, and LL.M. candidates.  Students can join CJTL by applying through the Columbia Law School Journal Application Process. Rising 2L applications occur in late May. Transfer and LL.M. applications occur in June and July.

Staffers participate in the Journal’s editing process by both substantively and technically editing articles to ensure conformity with CJTL’s style, proper bluebook formatting, and substantive accuracy of citations. This process takes approximately 3–6 hours of work each week.

Staffers also have the opportunity to apply to a number of Assistant Editor positions. These opportunities include:

  • Becoming an Assistant Articles Editor and taking part in substantively editing the content of CJTL;

  • Serving as Assistant Executive Editor and take a lead in the production of CJTL;

  • Managing the Journal’s subscription base, finances, and website as an Assistant Financial & Technical Editor

  • Participating in planning of the Friedmann Banquet as a Public Affairs Assistant; and

  • Assisting in the editing of student notes as an Assistant Notes Editor
