62ND Anniversary of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law
The Columbia Journal of Transnational Law will host our annual Wolfgang Friedmann Memorial Award Banquet on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
2024 friedmann Award recipient
Our honored guest and recipient of the 50th Anniversary Wolfgang Friedmann Memorial Award is Judge Sarah Cleveland, Judge of the International Court of Justice and the Louis Henkin Professor of Constitutional and Human Rights at Columbia Law School.
With a career that includes both academia and public service, Judge Cleveland embodies the values that Professor Friedmann espoused. She has taught a broad array of international law subjects and has published extensively in the field. In addition to her inspiring career in academia, Judge Cleveland has committed herself to supporting the rule of law and recognizing human rights around the world. She has worked with the U.S. Department of State and multilateral legal organizations, and served as Vice Chair of the UN Human Rights Committee. In November 2023 she was elected to serve as a judge on the International Court of Justice. As a revered professor, Judge Cleveland has continued to motivate and encourage her students to pursue careers in international law.
